Born in 1965, Claudia paints in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1997 Brant
Kingman invited her to visit the United States and exhibit her canvasses
and works on paper. Kingman introduced García's to dealers and collectors
across the country, from Baltimore in the east to Denver in the west, from
Minneapolis in the north, to Naples in the south. He arranged two exhibits
for Claudia in Chicago. In one, her work was paired with the great Latin
painter Roberto Matta.
Claudia paints with an original palette, an unusually astute sense of
design, and a personal iconography. These elements combine to produce an
immediately identifiable body of work. All of her paintings and drawings
tell stories that are as fascinating as the images themselves. Each story
is a fragment of a mythology that seems to come to Claudia as easily as
random thoughts come to others. The more you examine Claudia García's
work the more you will discover how extraordinarily generous and profoundly
connected it is to each of us.
Brant Kingman acts as agent for Claudia García O. If you would
