Paint Your Future
A Visual Arts Based Youth Development Program
By
Brant Kingman
Introduction
Paint Your Future is an interdisciplinary visual arts education
program invented by artist Brant Kingman. The program outlines a
method and provides the structure by which children can use their
inherent natural creativity and energy to finance their own higher
education. The following is a one-paragraph explanation of how Paint
Your Future works.
One Paragraph Description
Paint Your Future creates a structure that can be run within or
over existing educational programs, where young children make artworks.
Their work is displayed and judged on the Paint Your Future web
site and/or in the educational setting. Adolescent or corporate
adult students, under the supervision of a trained art teacher,
transpose award-winning works onto large canvasses. The large canvasses
are sold to corporations. Profits from the sales are invested in
an investment fund that will provide scholarships for continuing
education to program participants. Each of those participants becomes
a shareholder in the enterprise. The business of the enterprise
is also open to examination and participation as a part of the education.
Author, Brant Kingman
The author of Paint Your Future, Brant Kingman, was a principal
of a private investment banking firm. He is a sculptor and painter
and is the founder of Guruwari.com, an internet arts and entertainment
media development company. Kingman invented and tested Paint Your
Future when asked to unite four separate campuses grades K through
12 of The Blake Schools (a private day school in Minneapolis) where
he served as an artist in residence.
Museum Exposure
Kingman envisions Paint Your Future on a national and international
scale. An exhibit of paintings similar to those that could be produced
by Paint Your Future is currently being considered for inclusion
in the catalog of a U.S. museum tour packaging company. If the program
were accepted, it would begin an indefinite tour of U.S. museums
beginning no earlier than the fall of 2001.
Museums currently expend great effort to include exhibits that
encourage visits from children in their schedule. Museums that purchase
Paint Your Future will receive the exhibit of already created art
works and will host a workshop wherein members of the community
may receive training in what they need to do to successfully participate
in the program. These workshops would also supply the exhibit with
new material for display and possible sale.
Curriculum Development
Andrew Halper of Hip Deep Productions will develop the curriculum
for Paint Your Future. It will be available through the web site
and through workshops attached to the museum exhibits.
Investment Services
When the paintings are sold, net proceeds of the sale are deposited
in an endowment fund. Betsy Ingalls an investment advisor for the
securities firm of Dain Rauscher will act as the funds advisor. Participants in the program
may apply to the fund for continuing education support when they
choose to continue their education after high school.
Internet Presence
A Minneapolis based youth development web site called Mighty
Media Inc. has offered to provide the curriculum, and whatever
other materials are deemed appropriate, on their web site. Mighty
Media operates in the United States and 77 foreign countries. Mighty
Media will put Paint Your Future in direct contact with an estimated
70,000 classrooms around the world.
